O álbum, desde o seu lançamento, teve 25 milhões de cópias vendidas tornando-se assim o 25º mais vendido dos Estados Unidos da América, seu país de origem. Foi produzido por Bob Rock, e apesar dos conflitos entre os constituíntes da banda, foi o álbum mais bem sucedico dos Metallica.
Nothing Else Matters foi composta por Lars Ulrich (baterista da banda) e James Hetfield (vocalista da banda).
